No sign of the warm spring sun in Cozar, Spain, this weekend. Instead, heavy rain transformed the Cozar Motor Ranch into a massive mud pool. In the first moto, Calvin Vlaanderen secured a nice third place, but the rest of the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP riders struggled with bad luck in the muddy conditions.

Jago Geerts struggled with the Spanish mud from the very first session. In the qualifying race, the Belgian rider could not get past P22. Jago is clearly in the corner where the blows fall. Like Renaux he was involved in the crash at the start of the first moto. Just like his French teammate, Jago’s comeback attempt (from P22 to P13) was halted by another crash, and he ultimately finished in 17th place. In the second moto things went wrong from the beginning and Geerts was forced to leave the battle early.
Geerts: “I’ve been struggling with these conditions all weekend – a lot of mud and deep ruts. We have to find a solution to this. Everything is going against me. My first moto was quite good, until I crashed at the end. I lost a possible top 10 position. The second moto? It was over very soon. Frustrating. However, there is no reason to panic. Stay calm, look for solutions and keep working hard: that is the message now.”
