Monster Energy Yamaha Factory rider Maxime Renaux, not yet back to full fitness, gritted his teeth and secured a solid sixth place at the MXGP of Pietramurata. Teammates Calvin Vlaanderen and Jago Geerts showed good pace to contend for top ten finishes, but were both hindered by crashes.

In Riola Sardo, Geerts had gained confidence with a top-10 position and he wanted to continue this good trend in Pietramurata. But then you need solid starts, especially on the narrow Crossodromo Ciclamino. Unfortunately the start of the first moto was poor. Jago fought his way back from P20 to P12, but then suddenly it went wrong. So start over. A fifteenth place was the best possible.
Bad luck in moto 2: Seewer crashed just in front of Geerts, and Jago could not escape. He had to start chasing from place 38. And he did it amazingly. A fantastic catch-up race brought him just into the top 10.
Geerts: “Perhaps the results don’t really show it but I’m satisfied about this Grand Prix. I felt really good on the bike, and that has already been a while. In the first moto I moved up from P20 to P12 and a top 10 place was still possible. Too bad about that crash in the last lap. In the second moto, Seewer crashed just in front of me. I had to continue from the very last position but I managed to move up to P10. The pace is there. Now I have to work on my starts.”
