Maxime Renaux secured a fourth-place finish, while Calvin Vlaanderen came in fifth. Add to that a victory for Jago Geerts in the qualifying race, and the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP Team can look back on a successful Grand Prix of Spain in rainy, muddy Lugo.

Geerts was on fire during Saturday’s qualifying race. For the first time in his career, the four times vice world champion MX2 took the pole position in the MXGP. Jago took the holeshot in the qualifying race and was involved in a fierce battle with Febvre almost the entire race. A battle the Belgian won.
Jago also had a good start (fourth) in the first moto, but after a few laps he came in contact with Fernandez and crashed. The rider from Balen had to return from place 24. Not easy, entirely covered with mud. A 15th place was the best result possible.
A similar story for moto two. A decent start (eighth) but again an early crash (in lap two) which dropped Geerts back to P18. Jago tried to come back but did not come further than P15.
Jago Geerts: “A weekend with two faces. Saturday was really crazy. Holeshot and then win the qualifying race after a fierce battle with Febvre. That felt really good after a difficult period. I knew I still had it in me. I just needed a good start. Finally all the puzzle pieces fell into place. Unfortunaly I couldn’t continue the same way on Sunday. Although I had a good start in both motos an early crash killed me each time. Without these two mistakes my result could have been much better.”
