Rain. Lots of rain for this weekend’s MXGP of Portugal. The track in Águeda was transformed into a massive mud puddle. Maxime Renaux – finally cleared to race – and Calvin Vlaanderen both put in strong performances and broke into the top 10. Jago Geerts was stuck in 12th place.

No good starting position for Jago Geerts in the first moto, after a disappointing qualifying race – only 19th – on Saturday. The rider from Balen was just outside the top ten in the first turn, but in the beginning of the race he dropped back to P15. Jago then played yo-yo a few times: 14th, 15th, again 14th. In the final phase he was able to move up one more place, good for eight World Championship points. Geerts crashed with another rider in the first lap of the second moto and once again he had to come back from the very last position. And he did that very well: from P22 he moved up to P12.
Geerts: “I started both motos very badly. My starts let me down twice. Anyway, in the MXGP it is always difficult to win places, but in these conditions, – in all that mud and with so much rain – it is even more difficult. You have to take risks. Twelfth and thirteenth. It is what it is. Although I am quite satisfied with the riding itself. Now on to Lugo. Rain? That is okay, but please not too much.”
