It was a weekend of mixed emotions for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Team at the MXGP of Sardegna. Jago Geerts returned to the top ten in the sandy dunes of Riola Sardo, a nice step forward. Calvin Vlaanderen impressed with a fourth-place finish in the second moto, but unfortunately he was forced to abandon the first moto. After a big crash in the first moto, the doctors did not give Maxime Renaux the green light to start the second moto.

Geerts had a few difficult Grand Prix these last weeks and in Riola Sardo – where he already won the MX2 in the past – he wanted to achieve a good result and find extra confidence. He already found it on Saturday with a fourth time in the time practice. Despite two poor starts Jago managed to ride towards the top ten (11 + 10 in the motos). A tenth place overall. A step in the good direction.
Geerts: “I’m quite happy with my weekend. It was a lot better than the previous Grand Prix. That fourth place in the time practice proves that the speed is returning. Just a shame of the poor starts in both motos. That really has to improve. I must keep on working to get my best level again preferably as soon as possible.”
