The MXGP of Australia was over after just one race. A storm – short but very powerful, with an enormous amount of rain – left The Hidden Valley in Darwin completely waterlogged, forcing the cancellation of the second moto. Maxime Renaux and Jago Geerts – who both crashed and were forced to retire in the first moto – were denied a second chance, while Calvin Vlaanderen finished sixth. The World Championship has now come to an end for the Monster Energy Yamaha Factory Team. Vlaanderen concluded the season sixth in the standings, just ahead of Renaux. Geerts wrapped up the 2025 campaign in twelfth.

Geerts started his Australian weekend off fairly well with an eighth place in the qualifying race. In the first moto, Jago was engaged in a long battle for the top 10. The Belgian kept putting pressure on Pauls Jonass but couldn’t find a way past the Latvian. In lap 15, it all went wrong: Geerts crashed heavily and was too dizzy to continue. He ends the 2025 World Championship in twelfth place.
Geerts: “I actually had quite a good start in the first moto, but I was pushed wide in the first turn. I was running eleventh, clearly faster than Jonass, but I couldn’t get by him. Then I lost control in a braking bump. My bike kicked sideways and I went down hard. I was winded and dizzy. I went to the medical center as a precaution. Luckily everything turned out to be okay.”
