Monster Energy Yamaha Factory rider Jago Geerts booked his best result of the season so far – a sixth place – in the MXGP of Latvia. Calvin Vlaanderen, who is dealing with a knee injury, endured the pain and finished just within the top 10 in Kegums. Maxime Renaux had a difficult weekend in the Latvian sand and finished eleventh.

Geerts, triple MX2-winner in Latvia, pulled off a solid comeback in the qualifying race: from position 23 to 11. Again, a bad start in the first moto. Jago was stuck in the middle of the pack and had to catch-up again. Not an easy job on a circuit with only one dry track. Nevertheless, the rider from Balen fought his way back to P9. A good start (sixth) for Geerts in the second moto. A world of difference. Jago quickly found his rhythm and moved up one place in the fourth lap after a nice move – mid-air – past Bonacorsi. Geerts now had the taste for it and a bit later he took the fourth place from Fernandez. His best result this season. Good for a sixth place overall.
Geerts: “This was finally a good weekend again. I had the good pace in each session. Only a pity my starts were so poor in the qualifying race and the first moto. It’s not easy to move up from the back. In the second moto I had a good start and then you see immediately that I can compete in the top five. This boosts my confidence for the upcoming races.”
