Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MX2 rider Jago Geerts finished 7th in the MX2 at the international race in Lacapelle-Marival, France, last weekend. The Belgian bounced back from bad luck in the first moto (11th), with decent results in the second moto (3rd) and the Superfinal (6th).

A lot of riders – including Geerts – experienced problems at the start of the first MX2 race. Geerts: “I don’t know what exactly happened, but at least ten riders slipped away on the iron starting plate. I most of all. I could only just avoid a crash.”

The Belgian had to slash his way to the front from the back of the pack. Geerts made up a lot of places in the first lap, but then went down. His gloves were full of mud, making it hard to hold the handle bars. Geerts decided not to take any unnecessary risks and finished 11th.

Geerts got off to a much better start on his YZ250FM in the second MX2 heat. The Belgian was right behind the Dutch riders De Wolf and Van de Moosdijk. Geerts: “I stayed in third place the entire race. I rode my own pace and didn’t want to take any risks on this sketchy track.”

Same story in the Superfinal, in which the MX2 riders had to compete against the MXGP riders on their more powerful bikes. Geerts got another good start and made up a few places in the first lap. “When I was sixth, I decided not to push too hard as the track was becoming more dangerous. All in all it was a good race, a good training.”
